Question on Checksum of the entire VM

In the contest Submission package guidelines, it states that the following is needed...

"Checksum of the entire VM, summarizing the state of the VM at the time of submission."

Questions:
1) Does this only pertain to the VMs in the VA test environment?
2) Is supporting documentation required, or only the actual checksum?
3) Does the checksum have to include the entire OS, or only the submitted application(s)?
4) Do you have a preference on how the checksums are calculated (tool or command)?

    Instructions on the checksum process, as well as other details on the submission process, are included in the Contestant Bulletin. The bulletin will be sent to contestants’ e-mail of record this week.
